Calcium moves into fruit with water. Irregular watering, damaged roots, heat or very high humidity can interrupt that movement even when calcium is present in the feed. Check moisture consistency and root health before increasing the nutrient rate.

Magnesium is essential for chlorophyll, so a shortage reduces the plant’s ability to keep leaves green and capture light. Symptoms often begin on older leaves because the plant can move magnesium toward newer growth. Incorrect pH can also make magnesium unavailable.

Calcium supports new cell formation, while magnesium supports chlorophyll and energy production. When either nutrient is unavailable, plants may grow slowly, develop twisted young leaves or lose healthy green colour. Check whether the symptoms begin on new or older growth.

Calcium helps plants form strong cell walls and healthy new roots. Weak or damaged roots can then reduce water and nutrient uptake, creating symptoms above the root zone. Inspect roots for browning, poor aeration or disease before assuming the feed is too weak.

Developing fruit relies on calcium for strong cell structure. A shortage at the fruit can contribute to soft tissue, cracking, localised damage and reduced quality. Fast growth and inconsistent moisture increase demand, so steady watering is as important as nutrient supply.

Magnesium problems commonly begin on older leaves, while calcium problems usually affect tender new growth first. Burnt edges or yellow leaves can also come from excessive feed, poor pH, root damage or watering stress, so look at the whole plant before treating it.
